Preparation For EOY

For the narrative and letter writing, there is not much to revise but perhaps the notes and memorising the format of letters and the conciseness of narrative writing. The phrasing of words in the letter of request/rejection is also quite important.

For the comprehension, I plan to read the old passages like "Grandma" and "Ambush" and the model answers. Reading some online comprehension passages would also be good for me to try and understand some of the passages.

For all the detailed analysis, I can only take out the notes and read them to refresh my memory. Rereading Animal Farm would not be a bad choice if I even have the time as my EP3 is NOT CANCELLED! @#$%&*Coach! But I will still try to squeeze out time.

Most importantly, I would try not to panic and remain calm. Worrying too much is definitely not an option but a little stress does no harm but actually pushes someone forth.

Before the exam day, I would try to get ample sleep even if I have yet to finish reading the notes, as a person with no sleep but lots of knowledge has a lower chance than someone with ample sleep but little knowledge of scoring well.

Major Blog Assignment

We Are The World

There comes a time

When we heed a certain call

When the world must come together as one

There are people dying

And it's time to lend a hand to life

The greatest gift of all

We can't go on

Pretending day by day

That someone, somewhere will soon make a change

We are all a part of God's great big family

And the truth, you know love is all we need

We are the world

We are the children

We are the ones who make a brighter day

So let's start giving

There's a choice we're making

We're saving our own lives

It's true we'll make a better day

Just you and me

Send them your heart

So they'll know that someone cares

And their lives will be stronger and free

As God has shown us by turning stone to bread

So we all must lend a helping hand

We are the world

We are the children

We are the ones who make a brighter day

So let's start giving

There's a choice we're making

We're saving our own lives

It's true we'll make a better day

Just you and me

When you're down and out

There seems no hope at all

But if you just believe

There's no way we can fall

Well, well, well, well, let us realize

That a change will only come

When we stand together as one

We are the world

We are the children

We are the ones who make a brighter day

So let's start giving

There's a choice we're making

We're saving our own lives

It's true we'll make a better day

Just you and me

Analysis

In the first verse of the song, the alliteration of 'certain call' means how there is a beckoning for people to unite as one and help out others in need. There is also a comparison of Life to "The greatest gift of all", showing the importance of life and the need to treasure it.

In the second verse, the alliteration 'someone, somewhere' is used to show how we think there is some guy out there, wherever he is, who will help others when we don't even know whether he exists or not.

In the chorus, there are two metaphors used, "We are the world" and "We are its children", comparing us humans to the world and also its children, showing we are all a part of the world and also children born by Mother Earth.

In the fourth verse of the song, there is hyperbole ' As God has shown us by turning stone to bread' and alliteration 'helping hand' which are inter-related, where God cannot really transform stone into food but with a little help from the people it is possible that there is food for everyone.

In the sixth verse, there is repetition of 'Well, well, well, well' to emphasise the importance of the unity of people in order to solve the current situation in Africa.

All these points contribute to my character in one way or another as I am a peace-loving person who hates to see people being treated unequally and there are people who could help but do not. They often fail to recognise the fact that we are all humans and most importantly, the children of the world, who should help one another.

Life is precious
Like a drop of water in the desert.
Life should be cherished
Like one's loved ones.

Our lives are no different
From others' lives.
They should be cherished
Just like yours and mine.
